Real Wedding: Casey + Alex

Now that Casey + Alex’s big day has been published in print and online by White Magazine, we are thrilled to be able to share more details with you. There was nothing conventional about this wedding, which is what happens when two crazy-in-love creatives get together to throw the biggest party of their lives…all on a few months’ notice.

In March we first heard from mother of the groom, Karen, the newly minted host of the whole affair. With the L.A.-based couple having decided to switch from a Wisconsin venue to Karen’s suburban backyard only months before the big day in July, everything had to come together on a tight timeline! We immediately got to work planning: updating the budget, putting together catering from a food truck and Alex’s favorite pizza joint, locating the best florist for the job, securing rentals (many of our own super-fun vintage pieces), considering weather backup plans, figuring out lighting, and doing all the other things that come along with logistical planning for a backyard event. Thankfully, the couple’s photographer Jordan Voth and their DJ Ramsey of Milwaukee Airwaves were already on board for the location change.

Adding to the fun, Casey is the creative goddess behind Officially Quigley and she had a fierce vision for transforming the yard. She found support from colleagues Urban Outfitters and Alex’s company Absolut Elyx, which provided a stylish and elevated bar service. Her sister Carissa, who owns letterpress print People I’ve Loved, nailed the illustration. Casey found a nearby farm for portraits and we helped to make sure those would go smoothly. We then enlisted a photo booth trailer, macrame stylist, tarot reader and more to elevate this event from traditional wedding to full-on boho bash.

Being the obsessive planners we are, we made sure every little detail was covered. Our heads (and checklists) were abuzz with logistics: rain backup plan, food service and staffing details, prep locations for the couple, parking direction and valet service for a residential neighborhood, signage to direct guests, luxury restroom trailers, electric supply, every little rental and piece of equipment, timing for all vendors to arrive and break down, ice delivery, waste disposal, and the list goes on. Thankfully we have the outdoor event experience to leave every stone unturned!

Planning and providing rentals for a wedding like this is a demanding task and it’s a challenge that we thoroughly enjoy. On the big day, there was no better reward than the joy on the faces of everyone present. The oohs and ahhs as guests entered the yard, the heartfelt speeches, the wild dance party–it was a true dream day! Seeing the beauty of our rugs, tables, lounge furniture and tabletop items with the amazing floral decor was the icing on the cake…and the actual cake from Vanille Patisserie was delicious too!

Eternal thanks go to Casey and Alex for choosing us to support them in the final months before their nuptials. They could have chosen any planner or rental company and decided to put their trust in us, which is an enormous honor. We are proud to have done our hardest work for them and to have helped their creative vision come to life. Now, after seeing this full photo set published and being lucky enough to keep in touch with these wonderful people as they keep laying the groundwork for their life together, we are excited to relive the fun of this amazing day! Hopefully you will enjoy these images as much as we enjoyed being part of them.

“Before hiring Kate, I am not going to lie… I wondered why any sane person would ever plan a big wedding. Six months away from our big day, my finance and I decided to change our wedding venue and I was in a state of panic that was paralyzing. We found Kate and quickly brought her on board to help with a partial planning package.

Gradually that panic I had felt turned from a numbing fear, to a giddy excitement… and by the week of my wedding, everything was SO organized that my finance and I had literally NOTHING to do. Kate was so on top of things that we got to take the week of the wedding to just relax and be excited. Everything was handled. I kept being like- shouldn’t we be stressed right now? But no, it was bliss.
The wedding itself was a perfectly choreographed dream sequence. There are no words to describe the sense of comfort we felt on the day of the wedding knowing Kate was directing the show. Perfection sounds cliche, but she was nothing short of everything you could ever ask for in a planner. Professional, organized, punctual, and precise. She was calming and commanding and brought a energy to the space that screamed “I GOT THIS.”
I didn’t realize that our honeymoon would be spent entirely re-living the day of the wedding over and over again. We rode that high and still have not come down. It’s like there is “real life,” and then there is the wedding week in a whole different category of reality. You just don’t know how magical it will be until you experience it.
Kate- you brought the magic. You made it happen. You are a unicorn-riding princess goddess divine who sprinkles love-dust on all those you encounter. I AM SO GLAD WE FOUND YOU. You dream maker you! I can’t wait to get to re-live the memories of our wedding- you so carefully crafted- over and over forever.
Now, I GET why people have big weddings. Because once you live it, you tell everyone you know how it was “the best day of your life.” And it was.

INFINITE THANK YOUS to Kate and Chicago Vintage Weddings.”

Real Wedding: Anne + Jeremy

Some couples, when you meet them, just have “it.” They have that level of comfort, that certainty that everything is going to be okay because they have one another. Anne and Jeremy are one of these couples. When they first came to us in 2014, both were busy professionals living in Chicago. They had inspiration for their dream wedding day but no plan for how to pull it off, especially with such tight schedules and a move out of state looming ahead. We started talking with them about their priorities–an outdoor spring ceremony, comfort food, local craft beer, elegant vintage touches, a rocking dance party–and realized that just like these two were a great match for each other, we were a great match as their wedding planner. Thankfully, they felt the same way.

A few months later, our plan was coming together. We locked in an amazing industrial-chic venue in South Bend, Indiana and a nearby botanic garden, Fernwood, to host their ceremony. After getting lucky enough to secure the couple’s dream date (someone else wanted it!) and making sure that a fantastic band and photographer were available, we started on the really fun part: tasting the food. Enter Smoke Daddy, a Wicker Park barbecue restaurant that is so worth the out of state delivery fee! Between their hearty fare, assorted desserts from another local Chicago vendor, A Baker’s Tale, and The Brick’s seamless bar service, this wedding plan was on track.

Now, what about decor? This is where Anne’s vision really flourished. South Bend florist MichaelAngelo’s created a lush peony bouquet that still makes us swoon. Their tabletop floral arrangements were a perfect complement for our vintage rentals and decor. We designed a sweet little sweetheart table and some paper goods, and set the tablescapes off with vintage sheet music as a little nod to Anne + Jeremy’s Anne + Jeremy’s excellent musical taste. We made sure to cover all the little details too, from providing extra candlelight to plying accent tables with lace to complete the look. Overall, it was a perfect combination of vintage + industrial chic in a venue that we only wish could be located closer to home! Funk Harmony Park, a band the couple already knew, did an incredible job playing every genre imaginable late into the night.

At the end of it all, we said goodbye to the couple, their wedding party and their families and returned to Chicago feeling excited for them and just a little disappointed that, with our planning complete, we would no longer be working together. Thankfully, Anne + Jeremy have kept in touch and recently shared exciting news: they are expecting a baby! By the end of this month, these two fantastic people will be proud first time parents; they are going to be amazing at it. Congratulations on your growing family, Anne + Jeremy, and thank you for letting us share in your excitement!

New Vintage Rental Items

chicago vintage rentals weddings events

With the 2015 wedding season upon us, we are receiving many requests for an expanded vintage rental collection. More of you than ever before are looking for the perfect furniture, tabletop, and decor items to make your event unique and beautiful, all without the hassle of purchasing them yourselves and dealing with all that clutter and expense. We love making our clients happy, so of course we had to go and do a little vintage shopping on your behalf!

Most-requested items are vintage china plates and glassware (of course) and lounge furniture such as sofas and armchairs. We already have an enormous tabletop collection and have been steadily adding to that. Latest additions to our already adorable furniture collection include our mauve velvet wingback chair, matching provincial loveseat, matching provincial chairs, and a whole host of other upholstered goodies. Then we have the provincial cabinet–perfect for your unique sweets or favor display–provincial sideboard, gold striped bar cabinet, travel trunk complete with old travel stamps, and lovely little end tables.

Next up are tabletop rentals. We have added more mirrored trays, frames, chalkboards, globes, books, mixed metal items (great for floral vessels!), and mercury glass vases. Mercury glass was too adorable to have as such a tiny part of our collection, so we found more mercury glass votive candle holders for you to rent too. Then there are our apothecary jars and countless other little goodies to add that cute, personal touch.

If you haven’t made an appointment to visit our studio yet, now is the time to make one. You can browse through our collection of glassware, dig through stacks of fine china, chat about design, and, most important of all, reserve your favorite items before they’re booked on your date!

Real Wedding: Allison + Neil

We connected with Allison and Neil when Allison visited our pop-up shop during September’s Design Harvest street festival. She had the best style and we could tell right away that her wedding was going to be just gorgeous. That was, of course, confirmed on January 3 when we coordinated and provided rentals for her and Neil’s wedding at Prairie Production Studios.

This couple couldn’t be more darling. Their deep love for each other and their spirituality shone through beautifully in the ceremony, during which they broke bread with loved ones and shared a laying on of hands with guests. Their artistic sides were evident as well, with Allison’s handmade touches throughout and inspired floral design by Samantha Margerum. Big Star, never failing to impress, catered the affair with a handmade tortilla station and to-die-for tacos. Desserts came from Lovely: A Bake Shop, and we just couldn’t get over the gold-accented miniature donuts. This was truly an indie, local affair, with nearly all vendors coming from the West Loop, West Town, and Logan Square neighborhoods.

The couple’s closest friends rocked it out with live music and a song written just for them. Zoe Prinds of Flash Photography and assistant Crystal Liepa captured every sweet moment on film, which you can take a peek at below.

 Congratulations, Allison + Neil!

Dog Rescue Dinner with One Tail at a Time

One thing many of you already know about us is that we love supporting our favorite causes, and one of those favorites happens to be One Tail at a Time Dog Rescue. Our owner was a supporter even before founding Chicago Vintage Weddings, so of course it’s pleasure to have the opportunity to use CVW to do good for the pups!

Last night we were the proud sponsor of the first fundraiser dinner for One Tail at a Time. Our friends at green caterer Big Delicious Planet generously donated a five course meal prepared by Executive Chef Melissa. The dinner took place at Chicago Pet Sitters, so we knew we had our work cut out for us in transforming this daytime pet sitting headquarters into a cozy, intimate dinner venue. We decided on a simple, rustic woodland theme to match the space’s existing farm table and industrial seating. Scavenged wood, recycled paper and vintage rentals decorated the table, fitting the eco-chic vibe.

As if helping a dog rescue isn’t good enough, we were joined during set up by the world’s cutest guests of honor: two pit bull puppies who just entered the rescue that day! We don’t even want to tell you how much productivity time we lost to snuggles, but it was well worth every minute. These babies will be needing homes soon. There are also plenty of other adoptable OTAT dogs of all ages waiting to light up your life, all listed here on Petfinder!

Real Weddings: Julia and Mike

Some couples are clearly meant for each other. Julia and Mike are one of those couples, and it shows in the heartfelt pictures taken by Christopher Foltz on their wedding day. We coordinated and provided rentals for this charming August affair at St. Hedwig and Kitchen Chicago, one of our favorite loft spots in the city! Every little detail–from the matching bridesmaid gowns to the adorable guest cards–was just perfect. It was such a pleasure working with this darling couple. Congratulations, you two!
